An artist based in Shirakawa, Fukushima Prefecture. Based on the concept of critically reexamining the art system surrounding the name of the artist, he creates and presents work under more than 50 different aliases. Each alias has its own unique style and theme, and through his works he asks fundamental questions such as what is an author, what is the identity of an artist, and what is consistency. Some of his officially recognized aliases include Y.N, Kuraishi Yukihiko, Sakae Yoichiro, Oimatsu Takashi, Fukuoka Ichika, Niregi Maki, and Daniel Hall, and each of them is active in a variety of genres such as drawing, dance, photography, projects, and installations. While some of these pseudonyms are made public in art spaces such as galleries, the other 40 or so pseudonyms allow the artist to present his works while remaining physically anonymous, intentionally aiming to disrupt concepts of authorship and pseudonymity. The viewer's experience of inferring and imagining questions such as which pseudonym is Nakamura Yuichiro himself, and what his intention was in creating the work, is itself part of the viewing experience, and the criticism of the institution of the author extends to the world of the work itself.
